MOORESVILLE, N.C., Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Anpath Group, Incorporated, reported today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, EnviroSystems, Inc. (ESI) has registered its GeoTru™ Concentrated Geobiocide with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

GeoTru is an environmentally friendly biocide designed for the control of microorganisms in oil and gas production operations, including enhanced recovery systems, and industrial water systems. GeoTru is formulated to be easy to handle and ship because of its favorable toxicity profile compared to other biocides used for the same purpose; it is not reactive with typical down-hole chemistries and is equipment-compatible.
One of the most promising trends in the U.S. energy supplies sector is the development of new extraction techniques, such as hydraulic fracturing, which have resulted in a massive boost in natural gas productivity from shale deposits and other unconventional sources once thought unattainable. The $4.7B global well-stimulation material industry has grown at a double-digit annual rate and should continue to grow for years to come. Experts now believe that U.S. natural gas reserves are sufficient to meet the demand for the next 100 years. For example, according to a study by Penn State University, the Marcellus Shale formation (located in several states including New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia) may contain up to 1,300 trillion cubic feet of natural gas; potentially worth $2 trillion, creating 180,000 jobs and $4 billion in additional tax revenues.
Drilling for domestic reserves of natural gas has expanded exponentially in recent years with more wells in all parts of the country; however, within highly populated states this drilling boom has prompted increased calls from citizens, environmental groups, and various government sectors, for tighter regulation of the industry. The U.S. Congress is considering a bill that would give the EPA industry oversight requiring oil and gas companies to disclose use of all their conventional chemicals, including biocides that are currently used in the drilling process and pose possible problems with the nation's water supplies.
This offers a market opportunity in the energy sector for EnviroSystems' new proprietary GeoTru Concentrated Geobiocide. The company believes GeoTru Concentrate will aid oil & gas companies to get ahead of the regulatory trends and help reduce growing environmental and safety concerns, and assist to fully capitalize on the tremendous growth of domestic energy resources and drilling opportunities.
