Ansca Mobile's Corona SDK Embraced by Flash Developers for iPhone App Production
PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Flash developers are applauding Ansca Mobile's Corona SDK for providing a means of creating native iPhone apps quickly and easily.
Corona, which was released in early December, has been gaining popularity for its innate accessibility to Flash designers and its expedited approach to iPhone development. Given the uncertainty surrounding Adobe's last-minute cancellation of the Flash Professional CS5 public beta, developers are turning to the immediate opportunity provided by Corona to build for the iPhone platform.
"We're basically converting our game portfolio," said Shawn Hickey, Chief Architect of Flash design studio Comrade Software. The company's most recent app is Core Damage, originally released in Flash Lite on Verizon Wireless in the United States and Softbank in Japan. "Using Corona, we ported Core Damage to the iPhone in about two weeks, and most of that time was spent upgrading the graphics and sound. We also wanted to support accelerometer controls, which turned out to be really easy. We're extremely excited by the results!"
Other developers are attracted to Corona because of the significant productivity gains.
"I can say without exception that Corona is by far the quickest and easiest way to get an iPhone app to market," said Nick Wright, creator of the apps Flip 'Em Off and Cell Jumper. "All of my future game development will take place exclusively on the Corona platform. I'm really quite pleased that I found Corona -- it has shaved weeks off of my development cycles."
Corona is a Lua-based software development kit that enables designers familiar with Flash to create hardware-accelerated iPhone apps without having to learn Objective-C (Apple's programming language of choice) or resort to "iPhone packagers" which convert Flash projects to iPhone apps but dilute functionality.
Developers who want to get their hands on Corona can do so for an introductory price of $99 or download the 30-day trial version for free directly from Ansca Mobile.
