Apartments.com Expands Efforts to Combat Homelessness; Kicks-Off Inaugural "Help for Homeless Grant Program"
Apartments.com Commits to Funding up to $100,000 in Grants to Organizations Who Provide Services to the Homeless Population in the U.S.
CHICAGO, July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As a leading national online resource for renters, Apartments.com helps millions of people find a place to call home every year. Because homelessness is a cause so closely tied to the core nature of its business, Apartments.com supports organizations dedicated to fighting homelessness. Over the past several years, Apartments.com has donated more than $120,000 to help combat homelessness through national, regional and local corporate responsibility efforts. This year, Apartments.com launches its first Help for Homeless Grant Program, inviting not-for-profit homeless service providers from around the country to apply for a grant. The grants range from $500-$10,000 and will support programmatic or operational expenses directly benefitting the homeless. Applications for the 2013 Apartments.com Help for Homeless Grant Program will be accepted August 1, 2013 through September 30, 2013. Grants—totaling up to $100,000—will be announced in November 2013. Information, including grant criteria, eligibility requirements and application instructions, can be found at www.apartments.com\grants.
"Having a place to live is a basic human need," states Dick Burke, senior vice president and general manager for Apartments.com. "This is why we choose to support organizations who work to help the homeless. While we realize these contributions by themselves won't bring an end to homelessness, our hope is we will help change a few more lives one step at a time by providing an opportunity for large and small organizations to apply for much-needed funding."The Apartments.com Help for Homeless Grant Program is open to not-for-profit programs and organizations classified as 501(c)(3) by the IRS that directly serve the needs of homeless individuals or families in the United States. National, regional or local market organizations that meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply beginning noon ET August 1, 2013. Organizations may apply for a grant, which will be no smaller than $500 and no more than $10,000, and which will be funded based on demonstrated need.
"The Apartments.com Help for Homeless grants can be utilized to fund special projects or for general operational expenses that directly support and benefit the homeless," adds Susan Bryant, vice president of marketing for Apartments.com. "Through this program, we look forward to reaching even more organizations and supporting the important work they do to help fight homelessness than we have been able to previously."
