APPLETON, Wis., Dec. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Appvion, Inc. announced the appointment of Matt Denton as senior vice president and general manager of the company's carbonless and security papers business.

Jason Schulist has joined Appvion as vice president of continuous improvement. He will have responsibility for ongoing development of the company's continuous improvement systems designed to drive exceptional results in safety, productivity, customer value, quality, and on-time product delivery.

Denton joins Appvion with more than 25 years of strategic and financial management experience in the paper industry including service with RockTenn Company as senior vice president of finance, corrugated containerboard packaging segment; and with Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation as senior vice president of business finance; vice president of business planning and analysis; and vice president of business transformation. Denton spent 14 years at Georgia-Pacific Corporation where his responsibilities included vice president of strategic sourcing and procurement; vice president of finance for containerboard and packaging; and group director for planning and analysis. Denton earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Rutgers University and is a certified public accountant.

Schulist comes to Appvion from DTE Energy in Detroit, one of the nation's largest diversified energy companies. For the past three years he has served as director of major enterprise projects and has led a 95-member team involved in project management, engineering, construction and safety to effectively execute a $1 billion portfolio of utility projects.
Schulist's career also includes 12 years with General Motors where he led continuous improvement efforts for the Onstar Europe group in England; served as a senior consultant for e-commerce and organizational learning at the GM headquarters; and served in production management at GM plants in Poland, England and the U.S. Schulist earned master's degrees in business administration, and electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Marquette University. He has also earned Six Sigma black belt and project management professional certifications.
