Arctic Air Leads to Record Sendouts for Piedmont Natural Gas for Second Year in a Row
Company delivers record single-day volume of natural gas on January 7, then again on January 8; cites ongoing pipeline delivery system investments as key to service reliability and stability.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Piedmont Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) today announced that it delivered record volumes of natural gas to its more than one million customers over two successive 24-hour periods last week during the winter period's first major outbreak of arctic air.
On January 7, 2015, Piedmont delivered a record 2,502,480 dekatherms to customers in the Company's three-state service area of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The new record sendout occurred one year from the date of Piedmont's previous record sendout set on January 7, 2014 and exceeded that day's sendout of 2,414,385 dekatherms by 3.6 percent. The next day, January 8, 2015, Piedmont delivered 2,546,205 dekatherms, eclipsing the one-day old record sendout by approximately 44,000 dekatherms or nearly 2 percent.
Thomas E. Skains, Piedmont's Chairman, President, and CEO, commented on the record sendouts, "As a result of last week's extremely cold temperatures across our entire three-state service area, Piedmont's pipeline distribution system experienced record customer demand for natural gas. As was the case last year, our employees and our system performed extremely well, delivering natural gas reliably and safely to our more than one million customers." Skains continued, "Our ability to provide safe and reliable natural gas service throughout last week's period of extremely cold temperatures is another indication of the value of our ongoing investments in our pipeline delivery system through our system expansion and pipeline integrity management programs."
