PRINCETON, N.J., June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Church & Dwight, the makers of ARM & HAMMER™ Cat Litter, launched today "Tag a Cat, Save a Life" for the third consecutive year to educate about the importance of tagging cats, which can increase the chances of finding and returning lost pets. Keeping cats safe and happy is a top priority for owners, but when pets venture outdoors, some may not find their way back safely. According to a recent study, approximately less than 2 percent of lost cats make it home and 2.5 to 3.5 million end up in shelters each year. A visible ID tag with the cat's name and owner's phone number increases the chance of being found and returned safely. All cats, including "indoor" cats should be tagged to ensure their safe return home. Church & Dwight is providing in-kind donations to local shelters across the country and offering pet owners personalized ID tags for their cat.
"At Church & Dwight we are dedicated to helping cat owners keep their pets safe by providing personalized ID tags for the third year in a row," said Rithika Naik, product manager, Church & Dwight, Co., Inc. "Through 'Tag a Cat, Save a Life' we aim to educate all cat owners that a visible ID tag is not only safe, but it is invaluable in facilitating a lost cat's return home."
Cat owners who adopt a cat in participating shelters during June - Adopt-a-Cat month - will receive a complimentary personalized tag. A donation of ARM & HAMMER™ Cat Litter will also be made to these shelters for every "like" received on the ARM & HAMMER™ Facebook page through July 15 (up to 100,000 lbs.). Cat owners can also obtain a free Pet ID tag via mail with the purchase of any two ARM &HAMMER™ Cat Litters, including Ultra Last™ Clumping Cat Litter, Double Duty Clumping Litter, Super Scoop® Clumping Litter, Multi-Cat Extra Strength Clumping Litter and Essentials® Natural Clumping Litter.
Shelters participating in "Tag a Cat, Save a Life" include Animal Friends, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Animal Haven, New York, N.Y.; Pets are Worth Saving (PAWS), Atlanta, Decatur, Ga.; PAWS Chicago, Chicago, Ill.; Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA), Philadelphia, Pa.; and SAVE, Princeton, N.J.
