Optical Panacea features over a dozen legendary mixed martial artists including Randy Couture, Anthony Pettis, Anderson Silva and founder Urijah Faber, many of which perform signings in Art of Music and MVP stores. Sam Hon, the artist behind the pieces, describes his art as "Capturing the Grace within the power of an athlete's movement."
Optical Panacea was created after Sam Hon met Urijah Faber, formally a featherweight champion who currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Sam, known for his skill at photo manipulation, became a prominent MMA photographer after being introduced to many fighters by Faber. Together they gave life to Optical Panacea, a merging of their two worlds.
Keith Veltre, owner of Art of Music and sister store MVP, are no stranger to up and coming artists. In 2008, Veltre recruited artist and entertainer David Garabaldi to perform at the Mirage Art of Music store opening. The incredible success of the event lead to more appearances by Garibaldi and solidified the belief that vibrant, unique art will always be in demand. "There is an undeniable connection between Art of Music and Optical Panacea; the same fighters that come to Las Vegas to perform signings at our stores are used in the subject of many pieces of art," says Veltre; "They are bound to captivate those that come into our store to meet the fighters."
Art of Music will host a signing in conjunction with the arrival of Optical Panacea Saturday, February 22, 2014 and Sunday, February 23, 2014. Randy Couture, three-time heavy weight champion and actor will be signing autographs on Saturday from 1:30-3:30 and MMA Fighter Nick Diaz will be signing autographs from 1:30-3:30 Saturday and Sunday.
