Art, Technology and Politics: The Dozens Collective Brings Together New York and United Kingdom Based Artists Changing the World Through Hip-Hop
The Dozens, a creative collective, now part of the New York-based creative-technology incubator Floreo Labs, started as a streetwear fashion brand that has since grown into a design agency full of creatives using their artwork to speak truth to power. NEW YORK, May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- A creative collective of artists based in New York and London are connecting over their shared desire to use art and music to change today's fragmented international political climate. The Dozens Collective, now part of the New York-based creative-technology incubator Floreo Labs, started as a streetwear fashion brand that has since grown into a design agency full of creatives using their artwork to speak truth to power.
In their latest activation, the Chicago-founded art collective is taking over Kinfolk 94 in Williamsburg on May 2 to bring their artistic activism to the world stage. Born from the creative minds of Floreo Labs founders Cameron Flowers and Kheperah Ray, two creative-technologists using their creative-tech skills to transform the world, The Dozens aims to use art, tech and fashion to educate active youth about the benefits of global political awareness. Together with Luna Legacy, a music-minded community of conscious artists, advocates and activists from London, the two groups are connecting this spring on Smoke + Apple, a creative showcase designed to nurture a positive impact on global communities by helping them raise political awareness through music events, creative pop-ups, political awareness campaigns, artistic collaborations and many more cross-cultural artistic events.
"Hip-Hop is an infinite source of creativity, positivity and education internationally," insists Cameron Flowers. "It has been a powerful influence in our design work and we want to inspire the next generation to continue to use the genre's creative power in a positive way, rooted in global awareness."
The true power and ideals of this creative international partnership will be commemorated in the showcase of performing artists based on both sides of "the pond," as well as a new collection of The Dozens-branded media, apparel and accessories, available on location at Kinfolk 94 during the show and for a limited time on The Dozens website. With design details that link their roots in Chicago streetwear and skater culture and custom graphics and provocative educational messages made by Flowers and Ray themselves, the collection will take on the same cool vibes, internationalism and socially active themes one should expect of their showcase in Brooklyn on May 2.
