Artist Susan Olmetti Presents 'When the Wild Birds Fly'
NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Acclaimed artist Susan Olmetti announces her upcoming two-part exhibit of abstract painting "When the Wild Birds Fly" (date and venue soon to be announced). The New York solo show will include the series "The Outdoor Girls" and "Definitions of the Cohesive Force of Life and Sexuality."
"The Outdoor Girls" consists of 11 avatars of strong, creative women. Each is an interpretation of the independent spirit of women who are rich in creative fortune, and each uses her inner strength to improve the lives of others. Says Olmetti of her new paintings, "The 'Girls' demonstrate a theme that runs through much of my work: Love without faith forms a dying flower."
The photographs in "Definitions of the Cohesive Force of Life and Sexuality" are self-portraits, but of the artist in culture and history. Using purple hues to alter and confront the act of posing before the camera, Olmetti grapples with her own sense of strength and weakness, in a larger world of both love and indifference.
Art writer Ed Lister commented, "'The Outdoor Girls' is a wonderful piece ... it takes from the soul and builds upon it to touch on the surreal but shows reality. I am astounded by the creativity which [Olmetti] painstakingly builds into her work ... I can't wait for the crescendo."
