Arup Announces Principal Promotions

NEW YORK, June 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup in the Americas announced a series of promotions today: six key staff to the position of Principal.  The promotions are a reflection of Arup's commitment to growing strong, dynamic talent within the company.

The following six Arup people have been promoted to Principal:

Rich Coffin – San Francisco

Rich has over 21 years of civil engineering experience in large infrastructure and site development project management and design. He joined Arup in 2007 as an Associate and is currently Project Manager for the Fresno to Palmdale segment of the California High Speed Rail. Rich also managed Arup's design of the largest multi-modal transit center on the West Coast, the Transbay Transit Center. He is the Infrastructure Practice Leader for San Francisco.

Raj Daswani – San Francisco

Raj joined Arup in 2002 as a mechanical engineer, and has 17 years' experience in multidisciplinary engineering design and project management. His experience includes HVAC systems, plumbing systems, energy management control systems and energy audits. Raj has a strong commitment to sustainable design, and is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified Energy Manager. He is currently leading Arup's multidisciplinary involvement on the UCSF Mission Bay medical center project, where he helped shape the project's delivery method, utilizing principles of lean construction.

David Farnsworth – New York

David joined Arup in 1999 as a civil/structural engineer with a wide range of experience in the design and management of projects both locally and globally. His experience ranges from new mixed-use high-rise tower developments to signature bridge designs and includes various building, rail, airport and civil projects. Notable projects include the New Songdo City convention center in Incheon, Korea, Marina Bay Sands hotel towers in Singapore, Al Raha Strata tower in Abu Dhabi, and the Principal Riverwalk Bridge in Des Moines Iowa. He is currently focused on leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects in New York and around the world.

Ellen Greenberg – San Francisco

Ellen joined Arup in 2010 and has 25 years' experience in the urban planning field. She currently leads San Francisco's Integrated Planning team, which includes urban planning and transportation planning disciplines. Comprehensive planning projects include award-winning projects like the reuse plan for the 5000+ acre decommissioned Naval Weapons Station in Concord California, and – prior to joining Arup – "Envision Oakland," the combined transportation and land use element of the Oakland General Plan. Ellen holds master's degrees in transportation engineering and city and regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley and she is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Mark Roche – New York

Mark joined Arup in 1989, and has worked in the UK, Europe, Asia, and the Americas on a wide range of complex multidisciplinary bridge, rail and highway projects where innovation and constructability have been key issues. He currently leads the Highways Business in the Americas. Mark's technical expertise ranges from single-span innovative footbridges to city-scale major infrastructure design/build and P3 contracts. His bridge experience includes post-tensioned segmental, arch and cable-stayed, plus other more usual bridge forms. Notable projects include the light rail at IAT Terminal 4 JFK Airport and the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge, both in New York.

Jeff Tubbs – Boston

Jeff joined Arup in 2000 and currently leads the Boston Consulting Practice. He has more than 18 years of experience in fire engineering, and has led the development of innovative prescriptive code and performance-based fire engineering projects on four continents. Jeff serves as the Global Evacuation and Human Behaviour Skills Leader for the Americas Region and was lead author of "Egress Design Solutions: A Guide to Evacuation and Crowd Management Planning." He serves as chair of the NFPA Life Safety Code Assembly Occupancies and Membrane Structures Committee, is a member of the NFPA's Life Safety Code Technical Correlating Committee, and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
