As NCAA® Final Four® Approaches In North Texas, Local Residents Encouraged To Recycle Used Electronics At Free April 5 'Do Game Day Right' Recycling Event

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In an exciting pre-game warm-up to the NCAA® Final Four®, local residents will have the opportunity to Do Game Day Right™ and bring in old TVs, computers and other electronic equipment for responsible recycling – free of charge. Official NCAA Corporate Partner LG Electronics USA will offer a special eCycling drop-off event utilizing the services of Waste Management.

Residents are encouraged to drop off and recycle any brand of electronics products or computers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Cedar Hill High School (1 Longhorn Blvd., Cedar Hill, Texas), just 20 miles from AT&T Stadium, home of the 2014 NCAA Men's Final Four and Championship men's basketball games, April 5-7. 

This free eCycling event, a key sustainability project during NCAA Final Four weekend, is part of the LG Electronics Recycling Program, which is designed to provide consumers with a convenient way to dispose of their used, unwanted, obsolete or damaged consumer electronics products, consistent with LG's 2014 NCAA theme "Do Game Day Right." The NCAA also is partnering with its official recycling partner Coca-Cola to recycle bottles and cans at multiple Final Four events throughout the weekend.

The Cedar Hill drop-off location for this LG event will help make recycling of electronic products easy and convenient for area residents, who don't even need to get out of their vehicles.  The eCycling crew members will collect all acceptable electronic products from trunks or pickup beds.  (Products not acceptable for eCycling will be left in the vehicles.) Attendees at the recycling event can enter to win one of three cool LG ENERGY STAR® certified 42-inch class HDTVs in a random drawing the day of the event.*

By recycling old electronic products, useful materials such as glass, plastic and metal can be re-used in the manufacture of other products, according to Waste Management.  Recycling electronics helps reduce the amount of hazardous waste in the landfills and the extraction of new raw materials from the earth.  

Equally significant, replacing older TVs and computer monitors with new ENERGY STAR® qualified models helps consumers save energy and money while doing their part to help save the planet. Through April 5, participating local retailers are offering a $50 Do Game Day Right instant rebate on LG 47-, 50- and 55-inch class LB6000 series ENERGY STAR certified HDTVs and a $100 instant rebate on the LG 60-inch class 60LB6000.

To help assure responsible recycling, the LG Electronics Recycling Program works with e-Stewards-certified recyclers, like Waste Management, which is an e-Stewards, R2, and ISO 14001 certified electronics recycling company. LG Electronics is a Gold participant in the Environmental Protection Agency's Sustainable Materials Management Challenge, voluntarily committing to sending 100 percent of used electronics collected for reuse and recycling to third-party certified recyclers, increasing the total amount of used electronics collected for reuse and recycling, and publicly posting information and data.
