As New Report Reveals 1 in 4 Americans have Never Checked their Credit Reports, Consumer Finance Site Publishes Guide Encouraging Consumers to Access Their Files
New research reveals that a high number of American consumers are lax with checking their credit files for accuracy. LoansForPoorCredit.net responds to these figures by publishes a guide to understanding how credit scores affect consumers
SAN FRANCISCO, May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Although it appears that most consumers have a general understanding that their credit score is related to overall financial health, many are not taking appropriate action to safeguard and monitor their own credit. In a new survey from FindLaw.com, it is revealed that 22% of Americans have never ordered a copy of their credit reports. The survey showed that women were more likely than men to order their credit reports; 82% of women polled in the survey had accessed their file at least once. The figure was lower, at 75% for men who had done the same.
Interestingly, the survey highlighted a socio-economic disparity between households with lower incomes being less likely to check their credit reports at least once. Households with joint incomes of at least $75,000 were much more likely to regularly monitor their credit files.
As a response to these figures, leading consumer finance site LoansForPoorCredit.net has written a helpful guide on helping consumers understand how their credit scores affect them. Entitled, "How Your Credit Score Affects You," it is available free from the website.
LoansForPoorCredit.net made the announcement of the guide's publication in the following statement.
"From difficulties with getting jobs due to background checks utilizing credit scores, to failing to obtain better rates with auto insurance, credit cards and mortgages, there are many areas that are impacted by credit scores. We have produced a guide showing the many reasons why consumers need to be well informed about their scores. The guide also clearly shows how consumers can obtain their reports for free each year and the steps that should be taken if inaccurate details are discovered on the files or fraud is detected. We invite consumers to visit our site and read the report and hope that it offers them some helpful, practical advice."
