Ashley Madison 1 Year Later. Has Anything Changed? Asks She Spies Private Eye, Inc.

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- While Ashly Madison's web site proudly boasts "Over 49,285,000 members" as of today, how many users know they may still be at risk of being hacked at any moment? According to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) in the agreement between former Avid Life Media Inc. (ALM), now known as Ruby Corp., augmentation and implementation of their security framework must be at an appropriate level by May 31, 2017. In fact, in an effort to keep them honest ALM/Ruby Corp. have to provide proof from a third party that security measures are in place and meet OPC standards. However, that doesn't have to be in place until July 31, 2017!

Ashley Madison never admitted wrongdoing as found in the investigation, but as a Canadian owned subsidiary company they must adhere to this agreement or the OPC may then apply to Federal Court for an order requiring ALM/Ruby Corp. to comply with the Agreement or such other relief as may be available in law, in accordance with s. 17.2(2) of the Act. It's unknown how long the application process itself could take, let alone the litigation process while subscribers remain vulnerable.

"Life is short. Have an affair®." A slogan made famous by the Ashley Madison website now gives way to the latest ad reading, "45 Million Members Can't Be Wrong."  Perhaps it should say, "45 Million Members May Be Uninformed."
