Low Voltage Switchgear

Medium Voltage Switchgear
Medium voltage switchgears are used in the utilities sector and other large industries to control the supply of electric power to various equipment such as transformers, motors, capacitors or to other distribution feeders. Voltage rating ranges between X kV and XkV. This segment includes air insulated switchgears (AIS) and gas insulated switchgears (GIS).
High Voltage Switchgear
High voltage switchgears are used in the utilities sector to transmit power from the generating point to distant load centers and industries. Voltage rating are above XkV. This segment also includes AIS and GIS.

Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) Circuit Breakers:
In SF6 circuit breakers the arc-quenching medium, which is also the insulating medium, is SF6 gas. SF6 circuit breakers operate on either of the two below mentioned principles. In Puffer principle, piston-cylinder arrangement is used to compress the SF6 gas. In the self-blast principle, high pressure is generated during the fault current. SF6 gas leakage is monitored by a gas-pressure switch or a density switch that raises an alarm when the pressure inside the breaker poles drops beyond the permissible limit. On-site topping up of SF6 gas is possible with the help of a refilling kit. The operating life of a SF6 circuit breaker is shorter than vacuum circuit breaker (VCB).
Air Insulated Circuit Breakers:
Air insulated circuit breakers are larger than SF6 circuit breakers due to the large clearance space required inside the interrupting chamber owing to the low dielectric property of air. The operating life of AIS is shorter than that of SF6 circuit breakers.
Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs):
ACBs are circuit protection devices that have air as an insulating medium.
Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs):
MCCBs are circuit protection devices that have their current carrying parts, mechanisms, and trip devices enclosed within a molded case of insulating material.
Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs):
MCBs are small trip switches that become functional when there is an overload and are used to protect an electric circuit as an alternative to fuse.
Residual Current Devices (RCDs):
RCDs protect against indirect contact electric shock. They are designed to detect residual current (earth leakage current), compare it to a reference value, and open the protected circuit when it exceeds the reference value. RCDs are also known as earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCBs) or residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs).
Contactors are devices used to energize and de-energize an electrical circuit. They are often used along with an overload relay to act as a starter for remote operations of a motor.
