Asis introduces true 100G backplane technology

TYSONS, Va., May 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Asis, a leading designer and manufacturer of enclosures and backplanes for ATCA, mTCA, VPX, CompactPCI, and custom applications, introduces its true 100G backplane technology, featuring ERNI's new ZD Pro connectors in a Dual-Dual Star, and Full-mesh architecture. The new backplane technology can achieve up to 4 Tb/s aggregate throughput in a single enclosure, while ensuring outstanding signal integrity.

Tomer Aizenberg, Asis' VP R&D, said: "Although theoretically ZD Plus, ERNI's previous connector, was able to achieve 100G connectivity, it did not offer enough margins, resulting in signal integrity degradation. The new ZD Pro connector was designed specifically for 100G backplanes. By combining the new connector, High performance PCB materials, and our advanced design and manufacturing capabilities, we are able to achieve true 100G connectivity."

The new 100G backplane technology will be implemented in different backplane topologies. The first implementation will include a Dual-Dual Star architecture, which can reach up to 4 Tb/s aggregate throughput for ATCA (AdvancedTCA) applications, and beyond 4 Tb/s in custom-built platforms.

The new backplane technology will be fully compatible with Asis' MaXum product line, allowing customers to choose between 40G and 100G configurations using the same chassis. The Asis ATCA 100G backplane is compatible with all standard 10G/40G/100G ATCA blades. In addition, to future proof their investments, Asis customers will be able to easily upgrade their 40G platforms to 100G, while using the same platform components.
