WAYNE, Pa., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As we prepare for the back to school season, credit card issuers have been coming up with deals in their reward programs to entice greater use of their cards. There have been some adjustments to the sign up bonus situation as well.
Most of the deals happening this week come from rewards cards, especially American Express.
Starwood Preferred Guest ended their 30,000 sign up bonus on their affinity cards, moving back to 25,000 bonus points. The Blue Savings Program from American Express has started offering a 25% discount if you use any of their Blue series cards to book with Hertz Rental. The deal is good until 31st December 2012.
But while American Express ended the Starwood 30,000 bonus, they increased their sign up bonus for their business gold rewards card to 50,000. This requires a $5,000 spend within 3 months.
Membership Rewards continue to run points to miles transfer deals. At present, MR points transferred to British Airways earns a 40% bonus. Points transferred to Flying Blue (KLM and Air France) also earns a 35% bonus.
On the interest rate front, rates remain stable across the board. The only significant change was that Discover increased their cash advance rate across the board to 24.99%* (variable).
