Assurant Names Larry N. Port Senior Vice President, Corporate Development

NEW YORK, Nov. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Assurant, Inc., a premier provider of specialty insurance and insurance-related products and services, announces the appointment of Larry N. Port to the position of senior vice president, corporate development.

In his new role, Port, 61, will be responsible for leading mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and related activities to support long-term, strategic profitable growth at Assurant. He will coordinate and align related activities across the four Assurant businesses and for the company as a whole. Port will report to Assurant's Executive Vice President and Treasurer Christopher J. Pagano and Executive Vice President, Marketing and Business Development Alan B. Colberg.

"Larry has spent the last decade successfully identifying, negotiating and shepherding corporate development activities across the globe," said Pagano. "His in-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, extensive M&A experience and legal background will help us build on our organizational strengths and increase our ability to drive profitable growth."

Port brings more than 35 years of experience to his new role. Most recently, he served as president of MassMutual Capital Partners LLC where he led the company's corporate development and investment activities. Prior to that appointment, Port held a variety of senior leadership roles of increasing responsibility at the mutual life insurance company. Before joining the insurance industry, Port worked in the energy industry at Texaco Inc. where he was deputy general counsel and led the company's interdisciplinary transaction team. He began his career practicing corporate tax and sports law at Goldberg & Snodgrass, a boutique law firm in Pittsburgh.

Port earned a Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was named to the Order of the Coif. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia.
