"We're grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of The Courtyard project, and to play a role in helping seniors enjoy a truly exceptional lifestyle," said Steve Halverson, CEO of the Haskell Company, the design-build firm based in Jacksonville, FL, which was responsible for overseeing all aspects of development, design and construction on the project. "The Courtyard is a clear indicator of Atherton's ongoing commitment to the highest standards for senior living. Those kinds of quality ideals have made working with Atherton and everyone in the Alhambra area a wonderful experience."
Halverson also pointed out the care with which the Atherton and Haskell teams considered the design of The Courtyard, ensuring that it remain in keeping with the area's architectural influences. Notable features include the addition of spacious breezeways, a center court with lush vegetation, fountains, a pergola and wandering paths. Atherton took additional measures to preserve the existing landscape, enlisting a certified arborist to preserve a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of the new tract.
Established in 1914, Atherton is a continuing care retirement community, offering four levels of service to seniors 60 and over: residential (independent) living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and companion care, a model that allows women with beginning stages of dementia to live together in a home with 24-hour supervision. The community's goal is to grow with residents and accommodate their changing needs while holding fast to its values of caring and compassion.
