NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- New Yorkers attending Harlem Week this year will enjoy access to fast broadband and be able to better share their festival experience with AT&T* Wi-Fi access in and around the event. Following a successful briefing with Upper Manhattan business leaders, Lloyd Williams, president and CEO of the Harlem Chamber of Commerce and AT&T Northeast Region President Steve Hodges announced that AT&T will provide free Wi-Fi service for attendees at events occurring July 31-August 31, 2011, in celebration of the Harlem community's rich economic, political, and cultural history for Harlem Week.
Harlem Week participants with smartphones, tablets and other Wi-Fi enabled devices will get access to AT&T Wi-Fi free of charge while they experience the celebration events.
"AT&T is committed to providing the best network and broadband experience in New York City," said Steve Hodges, AT&T Northeast Region President. "With more and more consumers relying on Wi-Fi to keep them connected, we're glad to bring AT&T Wi-Fi to enhance all of the activities Harlem Week has to offer so attendees can share their photos, status and excitement using our network."
Using Wi-Fi is easy - many AT&T smartphones can switch seamlessly between connecting on Wi-Fi and AT&T, the nation's fastest mobile broadband network. Harlem Week attendees will be able to easily surf the Internet for festival updates, send mobile pictures or post a status on their favorite social networking site all from their wireless device.
"As Harlemites, New Yorkers and national and international guests celebrate all that HARLEM WEEK has to offer, our Chamber is excited that AT&T has joined in our ongoing efforts to enhance their experience and promote technology with free Wi-Fi," said Mr. Williams. "This important relationship with AT&T will definitely bring additional recognition to Harlem's ever-growing rich history as well as our efforts to make New York City in general and Harlem in particular an even greater place to live, work and learn."
AT&T remains focused on delivering the best wireless service in areas of Harlem neighborhoods, tripling the amount of network capacity and radio performance in Central Harlem while providing enhanced in-building coverage through new technology upgrades. As a result, residents and visitors should benefit from an enhanced mobile broadband experience.
In addition to its Harlem Week coverage, AT&T has Wi-Fi hotzones in New York City's Times Square, Rockefeller Center and near St. Patrick's Cathedral to supplement mobile broadband coverage in areas with consistently high traffic.
AT&T operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi** network with more than 24,000 hotspots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores, and retailers, including more than 460 hotspot locations in the New York metro area.
