Attack Addiction and the News Journal continue the fight on substance abuse with "Passport to Awareness"
WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- atTAcK Addiction, winner of the Governor's 2014 volunteer service award , and the News Journal have partnered to present Passport to Awareness on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Passport to Awareness was created as a follow up to the well received Heroin Forum which was presented by the News Journal earlier this year. The Heroin Forum raised the community's awareness of the growing addiction epidemic. Passport to Awareness takes the next step in the process by moving from awareness to action. This event brings a collection of valuable resources together in order to help those impacted by addiction – the drug abuser/misuser seeking help, those in recovery seeking support, families seeking direction and counsel and people looking to become educated.
"Drug addiction is a disease that has reached epidemic proportions not only across the United States but right here in Delaware. The disease of addiction does not discriminate" said Don Keister, co-founder and board member of attack addiction. "As a community, we need to increase our dialogue on how to effectively treat the disease. We are proud to partner with the News Journal on National Make a Difference Day to create this opportunity."
Passport to Awareness takes place at Brandywine Springs Elementary School in Wilmington from 9 am to 3 pm. Brandywine Springs Elementary School is located at 2916 Duncan Rd in Wilmington, De. There will be speakers such as Marie Allen from The Heroin Alert Network. The documentary "The Anonymous People" will be shown. Training for the administration of Naloxone will take place. In addition, there will be support resources for those who have lost loved ones, for those who have family members struggling and for those battling the disease of addiction, and for those who are in crisis.
