Attention All Southland Runners: West Covina Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk Seeking Participants for Fun and Worthy Cause
Third annual run hosted by West Covina Christian Church brings people together with all profit going to benefit the West Covina Senior Center
WEST COVINA, Calif., Oct. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Running events are a great way to bring people out for healthy exercise while raising the profile of particular causes. The Third Annual West Covina Pumpkin 5K Run happens Saturday, October 24th, 2015, with all profit going directly to benefit the West Covina Senior Center. The run starts at the senior center by Cortez Park, making its way through the beautiful serene South Hills neighborhood of the city before looping back to the finish line. Participants of the 5K or 1K will receive a goodie bag and t-shirt. In addition, participants of the Kids' 1K Fun Run (10 & under) will receive a small pumpkin, while supplies last. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division. The Pumpkin Run is a USATF-certified (CA13058RS) course for competitive runners. For the third year, the West Covina Christian Church is hosting the event.

6:30am – Registration/Packet Pick-Up
8:00am – 5K Start
8:45am – 1K Fun Run Start

The previous two years' events had nearly 200 runners, with nearly $10,000 raised to date for the senior center. The senior center is a vital organization in that part of the San Gabriel Valley, feeding lunch to 200 seniors on a daily basis, and offering valuable services and activities to the city of West Covina and its senior citizens. The funding from this race is to help with the overall operations of the facility and services provided, including:
-Daily Living and Health Programs (Nutrition program lunch, cooling center, computer labs, exercise classes)
-Specialty Programs (partnerships with other organizations such as Alzheimer's Support Group, Mt. SAC classes, Legal Assurance program, Multiple Sclerosis support)
-Enrichment (Mt. SAC classes and general classes)
-Entertainment (Dances, games, excursions, holiday meals/events, movies)
-Facility (BBQ/entertainment area, auditorium/lunch area, classes, TV/movie room, staff)
