Attorney General Lisa Madigan to Speak at Chicago Finance Exchange Dinner
CHICAGO, April 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Chicago Finance Exchange, (CFE), an organization of women leaders in finance across Chicago's public, private, and non-profit business community, is pleased to announce Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will speak at its dinner program Thursday, May 19. The program, titled "Working to Address Sexual Assault" takes place at the University Club of Chicago, 76 E. Monroe Street at 5:30 p.m.
The country's senior-most female state attorney general will discuss the Attorney General's office and how she has worked on the challenges, sexual assault in Illinois, including through passing landmark legislation to address rape and campus sexual assault.
"According to statistics, crime victimization costs the United States $450 billion annually (National Institute of Justice)," says Sara Hays, president of CFE. "Individually, abuse has a negative impact on women's earnings. A 2000 MacMillan study estimated lifetime income loss of $241,000, which is certainly larger today. What affects one woman, affects us all, as individuals and communities."
Often recognized for her leadership and integrity, Madigan has brought a high level of activism to the Office of Illinois Attorney General. Under her leadership, the Consumer Protection Division has established a national reputation for aggressively safeguarding consumers from financial fraud and unsafe products. Madigan has dedicated the energy and resources of her office to protecting children and women from the dangers of sexual predators and established herself as a leader in the public's fight for open and accessible government. From a fiscal standpoint, the Attorney General's office has generated more than $12 billion for the state since Madigan took office in 2003.
Members of CFE are invited to attend at no cost. Guests may attend for $150.00. The program includes a cocktail reception and dinner. For more information, please visit www.chicagofinancexchange.org.
