As a member of its legal team, Mr. Acosta brings nearly 30 years of experience and insight to Joey Gilbert Law. This includes his extensive track record in criminal defense, having served seven years as an Assistant Federal Defender, regarded as one of the most prestigious positions in criminal defense, in the Western District of Texas and the District of Nevada, where he served courts in Reno and Las Vegas. During his tenure, he represented more than 1,200 indigent defendants in U.S. District Courts in a variety of federal proceedings, including those involving immigration detention. This insight will prove invaluable to Joey Gilbert Law clients who have complex immigration cases marked by detention, criminal allegations, and the threat of deportation.
In addition to his career in criminal defense, Mr. Acosta also brings insight from the judicial bench to the firm. He currently serves as Chief Judge with the Tribal Court for the Walker River Paiute Tribe in Schurz, Nevada, and is an Associate Judge with the Reno Sparks Indian Colony.
