"Austin Free-Net continues to be a champion of the underemployed, unemployed and vulnerable people of Austin. We encourage life skills improvement through computer technology and have since our inception in 1995," says Executive Director Juanita Budd. "The addition of Technology Certification Prep Classes to our services is a natural progression for AFN. Our community will have an outstanding, professional and affordable way to obtain the education needed for the oftentimes overwhelming Certification process."
To be offered quarterly, the 10-week, three-tiered course will be held at The DeWitty Center in east Austin. Professional Information Technology instructor and consultant Kennedy Sikini will provide a maximum of 12 students with the skill set needed to successfully pass three employer-requested certifications – Strata IT Fundamentals, A+ and Network+.
"Working directly with Mr. Sikini will give our students unprecedented access to one of Austin's premier IT instructors. His top-rated credentials and skills, in addition to his ability to instruct adults, gives each student access to a leader in the IT world they otherwise would not have," advises Budd. "To give Austin's adults this access at such an affordable rate is remarkable and Austin Free-Net is proud to be the first in Austin to provide that access."
