Automobile.com columnist Andrew Evans offered some insight into the cost disparity among the luxury brands. "Subsequent research suggests that safety ratings could play a role in this survey outcome. For example, the Cadillac CTS and SRX models were awarded 5-Star Safety Ratings under the NHTSA's new standards for model years 2011 and newer. You can be confident insurance companies take this data into account."
The two automakers are direct competitors in the domestic luxury auto sales market, although Cadillac is currently enjoying a sales advantage according to The Car Connection. The auto research site reports Cadillac sold 152,389 units in 2011, compared to 85,643 Lincoln units sold in the same timeframe. Lincoln is owned by The Ford Motor Company and Cadillac is a division of the General Motors Corporation.
The cost comparison article also offers advice to Lincoln drivers looking to save money on car insurance and shrink any cost disparities: Begin by comparing insurance quotes through a reputable website such as Automobile.com. Be sure the source is unbiased and not affiliated with a specific automaker or brand. Comparing quotes allows the consumer to customize a policy and see if one insurer provides better coverage at a lower cost than competitors.
"These days, the cost of insurance is on the minds of a lot of drivers," Evans said. "As we have seen countless times in these recent comparison surveys, there can be significant differences in the cost to insure based on specific automakers. Our free quote comparison service and accompanying policyholder surveys allow consumers to make educated decisions on coverage and save money with little effort."
