Auxogyn and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association Co-Host Panel Discussion on Elective Single Embryo Transfer at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Annual Meeting

MENLO PARK, Calif. and MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Auxogyn, a leader in women's reproductive health, and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association today announced their joint sponsorship of a panel discussion on Elective Single Embryo Transfer (eSET) on October 20th during the 70th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) being held October 18th through 22nd in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Six distinguished panelists from the infertility community will discuss the results of a nationwide consumer survey conducted with IVF patients on their attitudes and behavior regarding eSET.

Women who have multiple embryos transferred have historically had a higher pregnancy rate than those who have one embryo transferred, which is a key factor in a patient's decision to transfer multiple embryos in one cycle.  However, these women also have higher complication rates during their pregnancy and their fetuses and babies are at higher risks for premature births, fetal and neonatal death than singleton births.¹  The latest statistics from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) show that the birth rate for IVF twins (across all age groups) is 23.6%² while overall the twin rate in the U.S. is 3.3%.³ Women who are electing a single embryo transfer represent less than 9% of all IVF cycles.⁴  Recent published data has shown the healthcare costs (up to one year post birth) of twins to be 4 times, and triplets 18 times, more than the costs of a singleton birth.⁵
