JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Aveda Institute announced today that it plans to open a beauty school and salon in Jacksonville, FL, expanding its reach throughout Florida with its fifth Education Center in the state. The Jacksonville location address is: 10601 San Jose Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32257
Aveda Jacksonville offers a Cosmetology / Beauty Training Program, consisting of classes in hair, skin, nail care, makeup and more. The Jacksonville Cosmetology school will also provide full salon services with a dedicated Aveda retail center, so cosmetology students get hands-on training and experience with actual clients in a real-world salon environment.
The Aveda Institute Jacksonville will accommodate up to 160 students at a time. Starting in the third week of January 2011, a new program begins every 10 weeks. Students gain over 1600 hours of hands-on experience in a little more than a year. All courses are taught using Aveda's approach of experiential learning.
"The extra time allows for more advanced and comprehensive location to ensure that our students graduate with the technical and professional skills they need to hit the ground running when they begin their first job in a salon," Jim Petrillo, President, Aveda Institutes Florida said. "We run two programs simultaneously, which each meet three days per week for ten hours per day. We structure our programs in this way so that our students are able to easily arrange work schedules to accommodate in-school time."
The Aveda Institute Jacksonville will not only serve as a modern education facility for cosmetology students, it will also function as an example of environmental best practices. Aveda will share with its consumers who take tours of the space how Aveda has reduced its carbon footprint, and how easy it can be for them to do the same in their personal lives.
"We will use recycled building materials and low VOC paints; and the lighting will be highly efficient and incorporate natural light," Petrillo said. "We will also keep our demolition to a minimum and reuse as much of the existing infrastructure as possible. For example, the terrazzo floor is 30 years old and just needs a little work to bring back its original luster."
The Jacksonville Institute will be the fifth in Florida. Aveda Institutes are also located in St. Petersburg, Tallahassee, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando.
