Alan Pitt, M.D., to guide Avizia in developing and launching new products, applications, and peripheral devices targeting the telemedicine industry.
RESTON, Va., May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Avizia, Inc., a leading telemedicine technology provider, today announced the appointment of a new Chief Medical Information Officer, Dr. Alan Pitt, who is serving as a professor of Neuroradiology at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, one of the country's premier centers of excellence for neuroscience. Dr. Pitt holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of Arizona and completed postgraduate work in internal medicine, neurology, radiology and neuroradiology.
"As telemedicine becomes a critical part of healthcare, companies serving the industry must attract and retain seasoned medical expertise in order to stay relevant," said Mike Baird, CEO of Avizia. "Dr. Pitt will help us continue to propel Avizia and its products into the forefront of telemedicine."
For the past 20 years, Dr. Pitt has worked with technology and medicine, seeking ways to bridge gaps in today's fragmented care system and by putting patients in front of the right caregiver when they need it most.
"Telemedicine can help replace fear and anxiety with reassurance for patients, loved ones and healthcare providers," said Dr. Pitt. "With telemedicine, patients can avoid needless tests, facility transfers and escalating worry."
Dr. Pitt is the current healthcare representative to the Digital Arizona Council, a group organized by Arizona's CIO, an Adjunct Professor for the ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovation and the University of Arizona College of Public Health in Phoenix. He's also a regular speaker at the state and national level on issues related to patient engagement and technology.
