SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Recently, Bayside District Corporation issued chefs of Downtown Santa Monica a cooking challenge – which could create the best cocktail/appetizer, entree and dessert using the peach, summer's favorite fruit. The three critically acclaimed chefs from Locanda del Lago, Fraiche, and The Lobster battled it out at California's largest and oldest certified farmers' market in Downtown Santa Monica.
The award-winning dishes are now available at the restaurants through July.
Fraiche's Chef Sal Garcia's "Best Appetizer" dish, Peche Poche, a poached peach with endive, wild arugula, candied walnuts, blue cheese and a red wine vinaigrette is available for $15 at dinner.
Locanda del Lago's Chef Roberto Maggioni's "Best Entree" dish, Branzino Cileno al Cartoccio, a Chilean Sea Bass with peaches, lemon verbena leaves and olive oil, is available starting June 26th for $32 at dinner.
The Lobster's Chef Collin Crannell's and Dessert Chef David James' "Best Dessert", Vanilla Scented Peaches with Brioche and Grand Marnier Sabayon, is available starting July 5th for $9 at dinner.
Judge Mar Yvette, Editor at Citysearch and TV Personality on "Good Day LA" and "KABC" said Lago's dish is "light and subtle yet flavorful with the delicate slices of peach on top. The en papillote presentation really was what took that dish over the top because it felt as though the food was a gift, which, really, it is!" She added, "I've been to each of these restaurants and now that I know they'll be featuring these dishes, I'll be visiting again soon!"
Judge Hadley Tomicki, Editor at Grub Street LA, said The Lobster's dish was, "the most creative, while not losing sight of peach flavor. It looked a little like a Southern country biscuit but celebrated the peach in every way."
Restaurants will feature all winning and entry dishes at the following locations for the month of July:
Fraiche (312 Wilshire Blvd.):
Peach Champagne Watercress
Locanda del Lago (231 Arizona Ave.):
Summer in Rio
The Lobster (1602 Ocean Ave.):
Kurobuta Pork Cheeks
