NEW CASTLE, Pa., May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Axion Power International, Inc. (OTC QB: AXPW), the developer of advanced lead-carbon PbC® batteries and energy storage systems, announced today that Michael Romeo, Research and Development Manager for Axion Power, will be making two presentations at the 14th European Lead Battery Conference and Exhibition (14ELBC). The conference will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Scotland on 9-12 September 2014.
Axion will be presenting at two separate sessions. During the Lead Batteries for Low Emission Vehicles session, Axion will discuss the development of an engine dominant series hybrid drive-train heavy duty truck that depends on PbC batteries to regulate engine load and fuel consumption. The diesel truck, which fully utilizes the high charge acceptance and inherent string stability of PbC batteries, was developed by ePower Engines and incorporates a 56-PbC battery array. To date, the system has demonstrated diesel fuel savings of 35% with a corresponding reduction in emissions.
At another session, Energy Storage for Future Electricity, Axion will highlight the growing need for economically viable renewable energy generation systems with storage, and will describe how Axion's PowerCube™ Battery Energy Storage System has helped pioneer behind-the-meter frequency regulation by incorporating a low cost, fast response PbC based model.
The conference is hosted by the International Lead Association (www.ila-lead.org).
