TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- As direct mail companies are embracing the integration of technology and direct mail, United States Postal Service (USPS) is doing its part and running a new postage discount program for 2019.
What does this mean for direct mail companies? From March 1st to August 31st the USPS lets all US-based direct mail companies qualify for 2% off eligible postage costs when coupling their clients' campaigns with emerging and advanced technology.
The use of technology is a proven force in the marketing landscape for today's savvy marketing professionals. This promotion will build upon previous promotions and continue the USPS' strategy of encouraging mailers to integrate direct mail with advances in technology to improve effectiveness and maintain relevancy.
To participate in the promotion, the mail piece must incorporate any of the following technologies: NFC technology, Video in Print (ViP), BLE/Beacon technology, an "enhanced' augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, Addressable TV, Integration with Digital Assistants, and Digital to Direct Mail.
These technologies will allow the recipient to engage in an interactive experience using the mail piece and mobile devices, tablets, etc.
"At DirectMail2.0, we've been approved for the Emerging and Advanced Technology USPS postage discount program for 2019. This allows us to pass on the discounts to Direct Mail companies when they automatically integrate call tracking, mail delivery tracking and online ads through Google and Facebook network via our white label dashboard," Brad Kugler, CEO. "It's exciting to see that the USPS recognizes the value of technology, and it's great news not just for direct mail companies, but for the small businesses who use direct mail. Now they can not only experience exponentially improved results from their campaign, they can save money at the same time."
Late last year, DirectMaill2.0 announced its integration with the USPS' Informed Delivery program. At the 2018 National Postal Forum, Deloitte said that it was the best representation and integration they've seen yet. In an effort to build recognition of this new product, the USPS has added it to its 2019 postage discount program. Any mailing to go out with Informed Delivery from September 1st to November 30th 2019, will qualify for the same 2% off of postage.
"Informed Delivery is the best thing to ever happen to direct mail, providing the business owners with the insight to how many people are checking their mail and actually taking an action to visit the website by clicking on a ride-a-long image further proves attribution of the direct mail marketing channel as a whole," Erica Switzer, VP DirectMail2.0, "we at DirectMail2.0 strive to keep direct mail relevant and aim to make it the most effective marketing channel by integrating other technologies that track and enhance the overall campaign. We see Informed Delivery as an essential piece to this puzzle."
Whether mail service providers pass the postage discounts to their clients or keep the savings for themselves, it's a great opportunity to increase sales and integrate mail with other technologies.
