'Back To Amy' Presents A Younger Amy Winehouse At SXSW
Exhibit features unseen Amy Winehouse photos and daily performances from Holy Roller
AUSTIN, Texas, March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Back To Amy is the SXSW exhibit from celebrated photographer Charles Moriarty and producer Gabriel Gornell opening March 12-16th. Through a collection of unseen photography and daily performances, it introduces fans to a 19 year-old Amy—before she became the international icon Amy Winehouse—and prior to the release of her first album, Frank.
Charles Moriarty said, "The Amy I knew was intelligent, talented, and funny. She was only 19, but had a great sense of herself and her music. She wasn't interested in fame and she wasn't into drugs. The vision people often have is so different from the girl I knew. And this exhibit turns back the clock."
The exhibit also features daily musical performances from rising British artists like APRE, Bad Sounds, Chagall, Charlotte OC, Curse of Lono, Ferris & Sylvester, Liza Owen, Matt Maltese, Sports Team, and Warmduscher among others.
Also announced, Cambridge singer/songwriter/producer KYAN will join the exhibit every day as a special featured artist. Just last week, Complex Magazine called out KYAN's "remarkable buzz" and impressive fan list—which includes Nile Rodgers.
Producer Gabriel Gornell said, "Our lineup of emerging artists is nothing short of inspiring. These young artists are fantastic on any stage—but from an art experience like Back To Amy, we can't wait to see where they take things."
Joining Gornell are associate producers Andy Jones of the Marvelous Vintage Tea Party and Tim Harper, co-founder and director of TheTin.
The exhibit is hosted from Austin's ultra-cool bar & restaurant Holy Roller (509 Rio Grande St) which is so good that it was recently featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri. Chef Callie Speer said, "Holy Roller is delighted to host the Back To Amy exhibit. Amy Winehouse was a unique and strong woman that left us too soon and our all-woman team couldn't be more excited than to put our own rock n' roll spirit behind this celebration." And Holy Roller diners do not need a SXSW badge to enjoy the exhibit. The exhibit is open March 12-16th, from 10am to 6pm. Restaurant and bar hours extend to 10pm.
