Banner Churchill Community Hospital paperless, now uses all electronic patient records

FALLON, Nev., Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Banner Churchill Community Hospital is now one of less than 100 hospitals in the nation providing the top level of electronic medical record (EMR) use. Just recently, Banner Churchill implemented its final EMR process; Positive Patient Identification.  The hospital, along with 21 other facilities within the Banner Health system achieved Stage 7 status, the final stage in the adoption of EMR. To achieve this, the hospital also had to have the capability to share patient information electronically with other health care providers.

"For a 40-bed facility, Banner Churchill Community Hospital is ahead of the curve in implementing Electronic Medical Record and we're the first hospital in Northern Nevada to achieve Stage 7," says John D'Angelo, CEO of Banner Churchill Community Hospital. Completing the final stage of electronic medical record required Banner Churchill to add systems so that physicians can review patient orders. It also required doctors to complete training for Computerized Physician Order Entry so that physicians could enter patient orders electronically. The final stage required Banner Churchill to implement Positive Patient Identification, a state-of-the-art hand-held device used by nurses to scan a patient's armband code and his or her medication code before giving the patient medication. This device not only helps save time by streamlining the process of care, but also ensures that a patient receives the correct medication and proper dosage.
