NEW YORK, March 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The first comprehensive poll for the NYC Democratic Party Primary for Mayor by Gotham Polling & Analytics reveals a fiercely competitive race.

The latest Gotham Poll shows a tight race between former Governor Andrew Cuomo and City Comptroller Brad Lander, extending into the seventh round of ranked-choice voting. Highlighted is the rise of emerging candidate, State Assembly member Zohan Mamdani, gaining considerable momentum.

Cuomo begins with a strong lead in the first round, but his advantage narrows as ranked-choice preferences are reassigned. By the sixth round, Lander is two points shy of blocking Cuomo's majority and creating a tight contest for the Democratic nomination.

Key findings underscore the race's complexity: 68% of voters view Lander as a viable candidate, followed by former City Comptroller Scott Stringer at 63% and NY State Senator Jessica Ramos at 62%. Mayor Eric Adams faces overwhelming opposition, with 84% of respondents stating they could not vote for him.

The poll of over 1,500 registered Democrats likely to vote in the primary, highlights voter perceptions on demographics like age, ethnicity and borough, emphasizing key voter priorities. Influencing the race are issues such as crime, affordable housing, and homelessness.
