BeautifulPeople.com Launches 'Adopt-An-Ugly Person' Initiative

Hundreds of uglies scramble to join Beauty Buddy Program 

BeautifulPeople.com the dating site for attractive people only is launching a mentoring service for people who are not attractive enough to be voted onto the exclusive dating site.

A sample of the 7.5 million people who have been rejected by the site will be contacted by email to ask if they require mentoring by BeautifulPeople.com members. The scheme, dubbed "adopt an ugly person", will also be open to anyone over the age of 18 who feels they could do with help to improve their looks or their dating prowess. 

The mentors have been chosen from among current BeautifulPeople.com members as a charitable drive to help those less fortunate than themselves. Mentors have been selected based on their individual expertise in areas such as styling and grooming or dating and relationship therapy. 

Each unattractive person chosen for the scheme will be carefully matched according to their individual needs to a mentor chosen from a high-calibre list that includes doctors, models, stylists, authors, hypnotherapists and various dating specialists. Once chosen they will work together either in person or via video conferencing. 

Greg Hodge, managing director of BeautifulPeople.com, says the programme is a great way for beautiful people to give something back. "We all know the classic teenage movie scene where the ugly duckling takes off her thick glasses, lets down her hair and is transformed into the beautiful woman."  

The initiative promises more than just advice on improving looks. With some mentors having degrees in sociology and psychology, the aim is to build confidence, aid personal growth and work with individuals to reach their full potential.

One of the mentors, Allison Brannan, is a fashion stylist with a degree in psychology. "Physical appearance is critical, whether we like it or not," she said. "What is most important, however, is having character to back it up. I have seen men and women dissolve from a 10-out-of-10 to a 3 as soon as they open their mouths. Equally I have seen a 5 become a 10 during the course of a single dinner." 

Elaine Fay, human resources chief in a multinational corporation, said: "I want to teach individuals how to attract positive people into their life, and show them how to leave potential suitors always wanting more."

A New York Times reporter recently called the program "Repulsive" however the recent flood in applications to the program shows that it is popular and is being viewed as a positive initiative.

Hodge continued: "It's politically correct these days to say: 'Just love yourself the way you are.' But that's easier said than done. People should be encouraged to better themselves and by introducing the mentorship initiative we are taking a positive step towards that goal."

Entry to BeautifulPeople.com is only possible after passing a democratic rating process, where existing members vote on applicants based on photographs and a brief profile submitted.
