Bernanke's latest comments don't suggest a near term uptick in rates

NEW YORK, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- RateWatch, a premier banking data and analytics service owned by TheStreet, Inc. (NASDAQ: TST) reported today that National averages for 6-month CD rates ticked slightly lower to 0.15% from the prior week's 0.16%, but have generally remained unchanged at record-low levels. The Federal Reserve has continued to keep the short-term federal funds rate at a range of zero to 0.25% since late 2008. The Federal Reserve reiterated its commitment to maintain its current pace of monthly purchases in mortgage-backed securities and longer-term Treasuries.

Joe Deaux, TheStreet's Economist states, "The Federal Open Market Committee last week didn't announce any surprise changes to monetary policy. Chairman Ben Bernanke reminded reporters in his March 20 press conference that the central bank would not automatically raise its target for the federal funds rate if economic conditions hit the Fed's threshold for a 6.5% unemployment rate and longer-run inflation goal of 2%.
