The annual rankings from U.S. News & World Report, as published by US News University Directory, now include a separate set of categories for top schools that are also veteran-friendly
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report's 2015 Best Colleges rankings includes a separate listing for veteran-friendly schools. Called Best Colleges for Veterans, its purpose is to help veterans find top-ranked institutions where they can make the most of their education benefits and military experience. The rankings are available now on USNews.com and USNewsUniversityDirectory.com.
To be considered for inclusion in the Best Colleges for Veterans, schools are required to meet certain criteria:
- They must be numerically ranked in the 2015 edition of Best Colleges
- They must be certified for the GI Bill
- They must be a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium
- They must either participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program or be a public institution that charges in-state tuition to all veterans who apply from out of state
The Best Colleges for Veterans are ranked in 10 categories: National Liberal Arts Colleges, National Universities, Regional Colleges (North, South, Midwest and West), and Regional Universities (North, South, Midwest and West).
Qualifying institutions are ranked numerically in descending order according to their 2015 Best Colleges ranks. So Georgetown University, the highest-ranked school in the National Universities category that meets all of the required criteria, holds the No. 1 spot in the Best Colleges for Veterans – National Universities rankings.

"For many, education can be a key factor in how well they transition back into the civilian workforce. Nothing improves veterans' career prospects like earning a college degree, and the Best Colleges for Veterans rankings are designed to help them do exactly that."
