He will deliver a presentation on the endoscopic brow lift during the conference's Facial Rejuvenation session on Saturday, September 5.

Anastasatos, MD, FACS, a board-certified plastic surgeon and founder of Los Angeles Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, will present at the 3rd Mediterranean Conference of Plastic Surgery Innovations, taking place September 5 through 7, 2026, at the Elounda Beach Hotel in Crete, Greece. Dr. Anastasatos will speak on the endoscopic brow lift on the morning of Saturday, September 5, as the third presentation in Session 1: Facial Rejuvenation.

The conference is organized by the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, in collaboration with The Aesthetic Society, and is endorsed by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the Global Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (GSRM). Over three days, the invited faculty will cover facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, body contouring, aesthetic breast surgery, breast reconstruction, gender affirming surgery, extremity and head and neck reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery and lymphedema, with an emphasis on emerging techniques and the questions currently under debate in the field.

Dr. Anastasatos speaks third in the meeting's opening scientific session, a morning block titled "How to approach the face and neck" that examines current surgical approaches to the upper, mid and lower face. His presentation focuses on the endoscopic brow lift, a technique performed through only three very small incisions placed within the hairline using an endoscope, a narrow camera that allows the surgeon to visualize and release the tissues of the forehead without a long incision across the scalp. He will be joined in the session by faculty presenting on endoscopic facelift and necklift, midface lifting, deep plane facelift, eyelid surgery and neck anatomy.

The technique Dr. Anastasatos will describe traces a direct line back to his own training. He learned the endoscopic brow lift from Dr. Luis O. Vasconez at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he completed his plastic surgery residency and served as chief resident. Dr. Vasconez, whose 1992 work helped pioneer endoscopic approaches to the forehead and brow, introduced the method that made the long ear-to-ear coronal incision unnecessary for most patients. Dr. Anastasatos went on to co-author with him a five-year follow-up study on fixation technique in endoscopic brow lift, published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2001, and has continued to refine the operation in the years since. His Crete presentation reflects that evolution rather than a restatement of the original description.

"The forehead and brow set the expression of the entire upper face, and patients often tell me they look tired or stern when what they are describing is brow position rather than the eyelid itself," said Dr. Anastasatos. "I learned this operation from Dr. Vasconez, who helped pioneer it, and I have spent the years since building on what he taught me. What I want to share in Crete is how a careful, anatomically driven endoscopic approach lets us address that region through very small incisions. The most useful conversations at a meeting like this are the technical ones, surgeon to surgeon, about what we each do differently and why."

A central theme of the presentation is the brow lift's role in rejuvenation of the eyes. Because the position of the brow contributes directly to hooding of the upper eyelid, elevating a descended brow can open up the eye in a way that eyelid surgery alone does not address, which is why the two operations are often planned together rather than treated as alternatives — a point Dr. Anastasatos considers central to periorbital rejuvenation. Working through the same endoscopic access, the surgeon can also release the muscles responsible for the glabellar frown lines between the brows and address the transverse lines across the forehead.

The Mediterranean Conference of Plastic Surgery Innovations draws plastic surgeons practicing in aesthetic, reconstructive and microsurgical specialties from across Europe, the Middle East and North America, along with residents, fellows and allied health professionals. John M. Anastasatos, MD, FACS, is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has practiced in Beverly Hills since 2005 and also sees patients at a second location in Kifisia, Athens, Greece.

Dr. Anastasatos earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Brown University, completing the degree in three years, and went on to receive his medical degree with honors from Brown University School of Medicine.
