James and Nancy Craven founded Alex's Arcade after their son, Alex, was diagnosed with and treated for a rare form of lymphoma at the age of 12. While Alex was undergoing intense chemotherapy, he asked to have his Xbox brought to the hospital to help pass time during treatment. The gaming system provided Alex with one of his comforts of home, and in turn had a positive effect on his attitude during treatment.

Founded in 2014, Alex's Arcade is a non-profit organization that aims to help children with cancer better cope with chemotherapy treatments and hospital stays by providing gaming equipment and systems as a virtual escape from their reality. The organization collects and donates games, systems and equipment to infusion centers and oncology departments at children's hospitals in Michigan.
