Bicyclist Rides from Alaska to Florida to Raise Funds and Awareness for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health
Community Event in Miami will Help Celebrate the Completion of the Mental Health Awareness North to South ride
MIAMI, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Patrick Cutter, a suicide prevention advocate from Virginia Beach, Virginia, is nearing completion of his attempt to ride a bicycle from the farthest point north accessible by road in the United States, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to the farthest point south in Key West, Florida. The goal of the Mental Health Awareness North to South ride (MHANTS) is to raise money for Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE), a national nonprofit suicide prevention agency.
An event to celebrate the successful conclusion of Cutter's journey is scheduled to take place in Miami, FL on Friday, November 5th from 5-8 p.m. at Zucchero Ristorante-Bistro located at 2525 SW 3rd Ave. (305-858-2525 / www.zuccheromiami.com). Cutter will be on hand to discuss his experiences and free appetizers will be served. The event includes a suggested donation of $10 with proceeds benefiting SAVE.
Cutter also hopes his efforts will raise awareness and understanding about mental illness. "There is a stigma attached to depression and other mental illnesses that we need to end," said Cutter. "While cycling across the country, I hope to spread awareness for treatment options and resources, and reduce the stigma of mental illness."
Cutter started his ride June 28 near Deadhorse, AK and has traveled 4,000 miles through Canada and the U.S. The 6,500 mile journey takes him through 12 states across the heart of the country. He is documenting his adventure on the website www.mhants.com. The site includes detailed information on the cyclist's route and an insightful blog that features unique and interesting photos that further illustrate the experiences he has encountered along the way.
The event in Miami is sponsored by Aceneth, LLC, Tonica, Strategic Branding & Design and Zucchero, Ristorante - Bistro. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available, contact Dan Reidenberg at 952-946-7998 or [email protected] for more information.
