Big Data Think Tank: Encapsulating the Phenomenon
Stratecast | Frost & Sullivan to help organizations accelerate Big Data understanding and opportunities at Growth, Innovation & Leadership 2013: Silicon Valley
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Stratecast | Frost & Sullivan recently assessed the global market for Big Data at approximately $22 billion. While the sheer volume of Big Data is enough to overwhelm several existing data infrastructures, the bigger challenge lies in dealing with 'many data,' which includes types of data that traditional databases were never designed to manage. It is becoming increasingly important to not only capture and organize relevant data but truly leverage it by making actionable, real-time information available through analytics.
To help organizations develop powerful strategies for Big Data management, and to enable providers to create optimal solutions that meet the market need, Stratecast | Frost & Sullivan are hosting the Big Data Think Tank at GIL 2013: Silicon Valley, The Global Community of Growth, Innovation and Leadership (http://bit.ly/18Eo0fz), on Sept. 10 at The Fairmont in San Jose, California. Stratecast | Frost & Sullivan Global Program Director, Big Data & Analytics, Jeff Cotrupe, will lead the Think Tank with a session titled "The World Moves Fast, and Data Is Driving: Big Data and Analytics." This session is designed to demonstrate how companies can change the game by transforming analytical insights into business results.

The opening session of the Think Tank will be followed by a talk titled "Using Big Data to Make a Powerful Impact" by GE Global Research CMO, John Magee, who will explore the market forces driving Big Data and how it can be converted into business value. This session will provide a framework for aligning business and technology stakeholders around a Big Data initiative.
"Stratecast has identified nearly 40 sources of data that enterprises must contend with, and more than a dozen additional sources that telecommunications providers must also manage," said Cotrupe. "Ironically, even as businesses strive to keep pace with the growth of data from external sources, the emergence of new models—such as a multi-device, always-connected, and knowledge-based workforce—means that organizations are themselves creating data at a higher pace than ever before."
While Big Data does present sizable challenges, harnessing it can make an organization data-driven and encourage the creation of policies and practices to transform information into action. It also forces business to decide on key performance indicators (KPIs) and areas of data on which to focus.
"Effectively managing Big Data means the organization has truly learned to collect, assimilate, normalize, analyze and act on intelligence from all sources to empower employees with the data they need to do their jobs better," said Cotrupe. "It represents the culmination of the dream that a company's most important data need not be locked away or be available exclusively to the Data Scientist, but instead can be readily available to virtually everyone in the organization."
The final Big Data Think Tank session, "Ask the Experts! Panel Discussion – Driving Big Data: Real-World Big Data Issues & Answers," will offer examples of results that can be achieved by deploying Big Data solutions, as well as critical issues and best practices in implementing a Big Data solution. The discussion, led by Cotrupe and scheduled to feature Magee as well as other panelists from Birst, Comptel, comScore, Huawei, SAS, and Seattle Children's Hospital, will also explore whether all organizations need Big Data solutions, and which solution is best suited to your business.
GIL 2013: Silicon Valley presents a number of other industry-specific Think Tanks throughout the congress between September 8th and 11th. GIL 2013: Silicon Valley participants include presidents, directors, C-level staff and others interested in the long-term growth of their organization. GIL 2013: Silicon Valley includes ice breaking workshops, interactive sessions, networking activities and luncheons, event kickoffs, exhibitions, demonstrations, executive insights and more.
