RACINE, Wis., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- It's back-to-school time and students in Racine, Wis. are gearing up for the Mayor's Back-to-School Stay-in-School Festival. For the third year in a row, SC Johnson will be the major sponsor of the 10th annual free backpack giveaway where students in grades K-12 will receive a free backpack filled with age-appropriate school supplies. The event is Monday, August 20, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Festival Park.
"If our children are going to start each school day off right, they have to have the proper school supplies," said Racine Mayor, John Dickert. "Racine is doing its part to get our kids ready for a successful year, and we couldn't do it without our community partners."
Nearly 150 volunteers will be on hand to fill more than 3,000 backpacks with supplies prior to the event and to distribute them to students at the festival. No student will be turned away and in the event supplies run out, backpacks will be provided following the event.
"The first day of school is such an exciting moment for each child," said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. "We're happy to participate in the annual event, alongside our community partners, to ensure Racine's students have the tools they need for a strong start to the school year."
At the event, the free backpacks and school supplies are just the beginning. Students will also enjoy live entertainment, interactive games, pizza and beverages.
