The award recognizes bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring professionals from around the world who are 40 years old or younger as of December 1, 2017.
Recipients are selected based on a number of qualities and characteristics including achievements on behalf of clients, community service, personal integrity, and professional service. Nominations are judged by a committee of senior professionals representing the diversity of the bankruptcy community.

Irving is a long-standing member of ABI and has served the organization as a member of the Advisory Panel to the ABI Southeast Workshop since 2016, and as an ABI CARE Program volunteer since 2015.
