Bioness to Exhibit at Annual American Occupational Therapy Association Conference and Centennial Celebration
Company to showcase expanded visual and cognitive therapies alongside rehabilitation solutions for upper extremity and pain management
VALENCIA, Calif., March 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bioness, Inc., the leading provider of cutting-edge, clinically supported rehabilitation therapies, today announced it will be exhibiting at the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Conference from March 30 – April 2, 2017, in Philadelphia, Pa. Bioness solutions serve to aid in rehabilitation from neurological events and conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and chronic pain.
Occupational therapy professionals attending AOTA will have the opportunity to witness demonstrations of the following Bioness technology in booth #811:
- BITS® Bedside & BITS Mobile expand on the highly successful BITS System allowing professionals to engage patients physically and cognitively earlier in the rehab process.
- StimRouter™ Neuromodulation System, a minimally-invasive implant designed to treat chronic peripheral pain including post-stroke shoulder pain, allows an alternative to managing pain with pharmaceuticals alone (e.g. opioids).
- H200® Wireless Hand Rehabilitation System, the standard in OT for treatment of patients with hand paralysis, allows patients to regain the ability to perform daily tasks and manage secondary complications.
- L300 Go™ System, a completely new functional electrical stimulation (FES) device for the lower extremity, helps increase mobility in individuals with neurological injury or disease.
"Globally people are living and staying in the workforce longer. Occupational therapists are key to helping the aging population recover from injury, maintain independence and improve their quality of life," said Todd Cushman, President and CEO of Bioness. "With the addition of technologies like BITS, StimRouter and H200 Wireless, Bioness is leading the way for technological innovations in the rehab setting and we are looking forward to connecting with professionals at AOTA."
For over a decade, Bioness has been a technological leader in rehabilitation for both inpatient and outpatient occupational therapy. This year, Bioness plans to showcase four of their solutions at AOTA, used in areas of both rehabilitation and non-pharmaceutical relief of chronic pain so a patient may participate more effectively in rehab activities.
Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS)
BITS is a mounted, portable touchscreen that runs software applications for 24 unique programs spanning six categories – assessments, visual scanning, visual pursuit, cognitive, visual-motor, and charts. These categories work to rehabilitate in the areas of occupational, physical, and speech therapies, and can also be used in exercises for athletic training. BITS Bedside and BITS Mobile are two new solutions for those not able to be upright, allowing patients to participate in these assessments and challenges while in a controlled rehabilitation space, so their progress is not hindered by an inability to stand or sit during recovery.
StimRouter Neuromodulation System for Chronic Peripheral Pain
The StimRouter is a minimally-invasive, long-term solution for patients that are suffering from chronic pain that prohibits them from participating in daily activities or rehabilitation therapies. The StimRouter device consists of a thin, implanted lead with a conductive electrode, external pulse transmitter (EPT), and hand-held wireless patient programmer. The StimRouter targets peripheral nerves to relieve pain at their origin for patients that are either recovering from a neurological event, such as stroke, or surgical complications and failures. As a non-opioid solution to long-term pain, the StimRouter has received accolades from both physicians and patients.
H200 Wireless Hand Rehabilitation System
With more than 20 peer-reviewed and published clinical studies, the H200 System has been clinically shown to improve hand and upper extremity function during all stages of stroke rehabilitation. The System delivers non-invasive FES to improve hand function, reduce muscle spasms and prevent disuse atrophy. H200 Wireless is widely used in the Veterans Administration to promote functional hand use in spinal cord injury patients that lack the ability to perform daily activities including grasping and releasing hand movements.
L300 Go System
For patients with mobility challenges related to neurological condition or disease, the L300 Go is the first functional electrical stimulation (FES) to incorporate 3D motion detection of gait events with the use of a 3-axis gyroscope to prevent falls and encourage better balance and stability. Recently cleared by the FDA, the L300 Go monitors patient movement in all three planes of motion and includes the myBioness™ mobile app for progress tracking, with the intent to keep home users actively participating in the rehabilitation process and meeting goals for recovery. The L300 Go System will be available to healthcare providers in late spring/early summer.
