Black Women's Roundtable Agrees to Meeting with NFL Senior Executives

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Women's Roundtable (BWR), an intergenerational network of women leaders representing Black women and girls from across the country,  agreed to meet with two senior executives at the National Football League (NFL), Ana Isaacson and Troy Vincent, to plan a larger meeting to address domestic violence, sexual assault and other issues plaguing the NFL.  BWR will continue to share importance of including Black women and other women of color experts in domestic violence as outside advisors, which the group considers a  key element in the NFL's efforts to get it right in developing culturally competent solutions.  

The meeting with NFL executives is a result of a letter sent last week by members of the Black Women's Roundtable to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressing their dismay that, despite the fact that over 66% of NFL players are African American, there are no black women included in the recently established advisory group of women appointed to assist in developing new policies to eradicate domestic violence within the NFL. 

In addition to the meeting with representatives from the NFL, BWR convened over the weekend to put together an action plan detailing specific actions they will take over the next few weeks to elevate the voices of women of color in the conversation about domestic violence in the NFL, other sports, and the broader issue of domestic violence nationally.

The additional actions will be outlined during a press conference preceding the Black Women's Roundtable Sixth Annual Public Policy Forum Series co-hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

The 2014 BWR Public Policy Forum Series will build upon the dialogue in 2013 by providing a progress report on what has been accomplished one-year later including the 2014 BWR Report, "Black Women in the United States, 2014: Progress and Challenges" released earlier this year.  The BWR Forum will include a panel of experts to share solutions addressing issues impacting Black women and girls.  Also, the forum will provide an update on the ongoing 2014 BWR Power of the Sister Vote Campaign.
