WASHINGTON, Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc. announced today that it is being sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Army, Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) to begin the federal process for compliance of cloud products and services, called Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP).
Blackboard's flagship learning management system, Learn (in a SaaS environment), as well as their industry-leading virtual collaboration technology, have begun review under the FedRAMP process.
Today's announcement represents a major milestone in the company's broader cloud strategy, and marks a step forward toward bringing the industry's most comprehensive set of cloud-based solutions to all customers including the federal government.
"We're proud to have a partner like METC to work with us through this process," said Jay Bhatt, CEO of Blackboard. "They are a great partner and this is an incredibly important step for our company– both in terms of advancing our mission to reimagine education across the spectrum of learning, as well as improving ways we can bring our mission-critical solutions and services to all of our customers in the federal government safely and securely."
Blackboard's solutions offer government and military agencies next-generation online, social and mobile tools that create a continuous learning environment, built around peer-to-peer interaction, content and discussions.
FedRAMP is a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. This approach uses a "do once, use many times" framework that saves an estimated 30-40% of government costs, as well as both time and staff required to conduct redundant agency security assessments.
