Blackboard Recognized for Providing Hundreds of Jobs, Career Training to Local Region
Leading EdTech Company Provides Skilled Technology Sector Jobs and Career Training in Pulaski County
WASHINGTON, Oct. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc. ("Blackboard"), the world's leading education technology company, today welcomed Congressman Hal Rogers and representatives from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to its primary Student Services Contact Center located in Somerset, Kentucky. ARC is a regional economic development agency that represents a partnership of federal, state, and local governments composed of the governors of the 13 Appalachian States and a federal co-chair, who is appointed by the President.
The visit recognizes Blackboard's commitment to providing high-quality technology sector jobs and career training in the region.
Blackboard's flagship Contact Center opened in 2006 and provides 350 technology sector jobs in Pulaski County. The company consistently provides employees with training focused on technology and career development opportunities. Blackboard's Contact Centers provide 24/7 services for students, faculty, and staff at more than 500 higher-education institutions globally. This year, the Somerset facility will handle more than three million inquiries tied to admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and various other educational administrative services on behalf of institutional partners.
"When we opened our doors in Somerset nine years ago we were the only EdTech company in town," said Willie Wilson, Director of Operations for the Blackboard Contact Center in Somerset. "Since then, we've been able to provide hundreds of employees the ability to work in the tech industry, and in turn opened lots of new and exciting career opportunities for them."
As part of Blackboard's mission of reimagining education, the company is committed to making a difference in the communities where employees live and work. In 2014, employees donated thousands of books to seven schools in Somerset, Kentucky. Blackboard also operates Contact Centers in Phoenix, Arizona, Greenville, South Carolina, and Killeen, Texas.
"As a committed member of the Somerset community, we are thrilled to have ARC members visit our technology facility and meet our talented workforce," said Craig Chanoff, Vice President of Student Services for Blackboard. "As Blackboard continues to grow and serve educational institutions helping them fulfill their missions -- providing best in class student services -- we genuinely appreciate the recognition and partnership opportunities with the ARC."
