Blackboard Shows Strong Momentum in Brazil
Company Makes Regional Investments and Expands Presence in Sao Paulo
WASHINGTON, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard now supports more than 1 million students and faculty members at over 70 institutions in Brazil, the company announced today. Now registering an impressive 100 percent growth in the country over the past year, the company is expanding its presence in Sao Paulo.
Today's announcement helps solidify Blackboard's growing global presence and marks the company's latest investment in a critical region. Blackboard already powers the teaching and learning environments of leading Brazilian schools and universities such as Rede Pitagoras and Universidade Positivo and recently announced a partnership with Grupo Positivo to strengthen e-learning in the region.
"We are always looking for different ways to enhance the teaching and learning process," said Marcia Maria Deotto, interactive learning technologies manager at the Insper Institute of Education and Research. "We needed a high-quality platform that could help us meet the needs of our students and Blackboard's solutions helped us achieve this by providing new ways of engaging and interacting with students inside and outside the classroom."
Blackboard has strengthened its presence in Sao Paulo to better support its growing footprint in the country. The company is hiring local talent in various fields including educational services, product development and sales. Blackboard's products and services are distributed exclusively by Grupo A Educacao, an educational holding company that has been working for more than 40 years in the Brazilian market and headquartered in Porto Alegre (RS).
"The pace of innovation and introduction of new delivery models of teaching and learning are rapidly transforming the traditional education system," said Matthew Small, senior vice president and managing director, international at Blackboard. "Brazil is no exception. This is a country with huge educational opportunities and we are fully committed to partnering with institutions to offer their learners innovative solutions that are based on meeting their needs and improving their experience. With our new facility, we will be able to not only make our efforts here more effective, but also provide world-class services with dedicated local support."
Used by millions of students in over 70 countries, Blackboard offers learner-centric learning solutions that provide a fully-featured online environment that includes course delivery, synchronous collaboration tools, mobile apps, and seamless integration with and access to industry-leading content.
