Finalist shot for a chance to win $1 million in the Capital One Million Dollar Button.
TORONTO, March 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Bob Stewart stood on competition ice at the Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton where he shot for the chance to win $1 million in the Capital One Million Dollar Button final. Mr. Stewart's rock was on-line for a good result, but came up just short of the house. His throw earned him a $5,000 cheque from Capital One. The winning shot was performed live on TSN during fifth-end break of the gold-medal game in front of a live audience of more than 10,000 fans.
In order to win the Capital One Million Dollar Button's grand prize of a one-time payment of $1 million, Mr. Stewart had to successfully deliver a rock from the hack and place the stone within the button on a regulation curling sheet. He only had one opportunity to execute the shot.
"I thought the throw was fine with the outturn. I just didn't have enough weight for that ice, that's all," said Mr. Stewart after his shot. "Oh, it's been a great experience. Unbelievable. We got the weekend at the Scotties, we got the weekend here. It was just an unbelievable experience…a great time."
Mr. Stewart and three of his friends received an all-expenses-paid trip to the Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton. His friends came along for the trip to be his own personal "cheer squad" for the final-round throw.
