Bondi Enhances its Archive Publishing Platform With HTML5 Viewer For iPad — Playboy and Rolling Stone Are First to Adopt
NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bondi Digital Publishing announced that Playboy and Rolling Stone are the first magazines to adopt its newly released HTML5 iPad viewer. Bondi developed the proprietary touch viewer so that iPad users can browse, search and read every issue of a complete archive directly through the IOS browser. Although browser based, users will find many of the familiar touch gestures of a native app, including pinch zoom and swipe to turn pages.
Subscribers can access each magazine's current digital edition, plus their entire digital archive. Playboy went live on the iPad in late June with over 650 issues and charges $8 per month and $60 for a one year subscription. According to Jimmy Jellinek, Chief Content Officer at Playboy, "It's already a resounding success for the company from a commercial standpoint."
Rolling Stone debuted in August with over 1,100 issues. The content is only available to print subscribers, who can access it for free.
The Bondi Archive Platform is available to publishers as Software as a Service and integrates seamlessly into magazines websites. According to Murat Aktar, Co-Founder at Bondi, "Publishers are understandably excited about how touch enabled tablet devices are transforming the digital magazine reading experience. Bringing access to magazine archives on the iPad is a fantastic new opportunity for traditional magazines."
